Traditionally, Kachin families use slash and burn to grow rice that threatens the watershed forests of Indawgyi Lake. New farming methods, such as agroforestry or organic garlic farming, protect the Lake’s watershed, and simultaneously assure an income for the families. Increasingly, residents and households in the area are employing more sustainable practices.
